Canesten 500mg Soft Gel Pessary with its active ingredient clotrimazole, is used to treat fungal and yeast infections. Canesten pessary is made from a soft gel providing a single dose treatment for vaginal thrush. It is supplied with an applicator for treatment at the site of the infection.
Thrush is an infection caused by a yeast called Candida. This yeast normally lives in your body quite happily without doing you any harm. When the natural pH balance of your vagina is upset - which can easily happen - Candida can multiply, and that's when symptoms start to develop.
IngredientsWhite soft paraffin, liquid paraffin, gelatin, glycerol, water, titanium dioxide (E171), quinoline yellow (E104), sunset yellow (E110), lecithin, medium-chain triglycerides.
UsageUsing the applicator insert the soft gel pessary as high as possible into the vagina.
WarningsMedical advice should be sought if this is the first time the patient has experienced symptoms of candidal vaginitis. Before using Canesten Soft Gel Pessaries, medical advice must be sought if any of the following are applicable:- more than two infections of candidal vaginitis in the last 6 months. - previous history of a sexually transmitted disease or exposure to a partner with sexually transmitted disease. - pregnancy or suspected pregnancy. - aged under 16 or over 60 years. - known hypersensitivity to imidazoles or other vaginal antifungal products.Canesten Soft Gel Pessaries should not be used if the patient has any of the following symptoms where upon medical advice should be sought: - irregular vaginal bleeding. - abnormal vaginal bleeding or a blood-stained discharge. - vulval or vaginal ulcers, blisters or sores. - lower abdominal pain or dysuria. - any adverse events such as redness, irritation or swelling associated with the treatment.- fever or chills.- nausea or vomiting. - diarrhoea.- foul-smelling vaginal discharge.
