Migraitan is used to treat migraine headache and other symptoms including nausea, and sensitivity to light and sound. The tablets contain the active ingredient sumatriptan which belongs to a group of medicines called triptans. Migraine symptoms may be caused by the temporary swelling of blood vessels in the head. Triptans are believed to reduce the swelling of these blood vessels. Migraitan Tablets should be taken as soon as possible after the onset of a migraine headache but are equally effective at whatever stage of the attack they are taken.
Active ingredient: Sumatriptan 50mg in each tablet.
Other ingredients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, pregelatinised starch, croscamellose sodium, magnesium stearate, hypromellose, titanium dioxide (E171), purified talc, macrogol 6000, iron oxide yellow (E172) and iron oxide red (E172).
Adults (18-65 years of age)
The recommended dose is a single 50 mg tablet that should be swallowed whole with water. Some patients may require 100mg.
If there is no response to the first tablet, a second tablet should not be taken for the same attack. In these cases the attack can be treated with paracetamol, acetylsalicylic acid, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. Sumatriptan tablets may be taken for subsequent attacks.
If there is a response to the first tablet but the symptoms recur, a second tablet may be taken in the next 24 hours. However, this must be at least 2 hours after the first tablet. No more than 300mg should be taken in any 24 hour period.
The use of Migraitan tablets in children 10 to 17 years of age and patients aged over 65 years is not recommended. Keep out of the reach and sight of children. Do not exceed the stated dose. Only take when the migraine begins. Do not take if you have high blood pressure, had a stroke, allergic to any of the ingredients, suffer from epilepsy. Talk to your pharmacist or doctor before taking Migraitan if you are taking any other medication.
