Description

Having set the standard with the Mini-Wright Standard, the AFS Low Range peak flow meter provides the same level of accuracy and consistency to those patients with lower peak flow monitoring requirements.

Particularly useful for very young children, the elderly and patients with severe air flow obstruction. The Mini-Wright AFS Low Range measures peak expiratory flow between 30 and 400 L/min.

Peak flow meters allow patients to monitor their asthma. Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF) is a measurement of how fast a patient can blow out. When a patient is well their PEF is higher, when the airways are narrow (as in asthma) PEF is lower.

Suitable for both home and clinic use.

Usage

Insert the mouthpiece into the meter, if not already fitted. Ensure the pointer is set at zero (L/min position).

Hold the Peak Flow Meter so that your fingers are clear of the scale and slot. Do not obstruct the holes at the end of the Peak Flow Meter.

Stand up if possible. Take a deep breath, place the Peak Flow Meter in the mouth and hold horizontally, closing the lips around the mouthpiece, then blow as hard and as fast as you can. Please note that any coughing or spitting into the meter will adversely affect your readings and should be avoided.

Note the number on the scale indicated by the pointer.

Return the pointer to zero (L/min position) and repeat the procedure twice more to obtain three readings. Mark the highest of the three readings on your Peak Flow Diary.

Warnings

This Peak Flow Meter does not require maintenance (other than cleaning) or calibration for the three years following its first use. At the end of the three years, it should be replaced. When not in use, this device should be kept in a clean, dry area away from any hazardous substances. It is important to keep your Peak Flow Meter clean when in use. It should be cleaned at least once every six months and thoroughly if it has not been used for some time. The mouthpiece is detachable and should be kept clean using proprietary disinfectant solution. Fungal growths may occur if the instrument has not been cleaned for some time. The Mini-Wright Peak Flow Meter is suitable for single patient use.
