Why Crash Diets Don't Work - and Our Tips for Healthier Weight Loss

Crash diets are everywhere. All over social media, so-called influencers are pulling their bikinis out of the attic ready for summer, sharing photos of magic potions and pills that’ll make you thinner, glossier, more glowing and better in every way.

Except, the world doesn’t work like that. We all know it, and although it’s nice to pretend, in reality nothing is going to help you lose weight fast.

And you needn’t worry - losing 2lb per week is quoted by medical professions as the absolute maximum a person should lose in order to remain healthy and maintain their weight loss for the long term. If you have begun a new regime as an “overweight” person, based on your BMI, 1lb per week is a completely sensible and healthy amount of weight to lose each week.

Of course, your BMI is also up for discussion, with many dieticians and nutritionists now preferring to look at your individual health. So with this in mind, if you’re still looking to lose weight, here are some options to help you make healthier choices for healthier weight loss - without resorting to crash diets.

Replenish Your Vitamins

If you’re cutting out certain foods as part of a new diet - perhaps you’ve chosen to become vegetarian or vegan, or you’ve been advised to cut our red meat and other high-cholesterol foods. It’s important to make sure you’re still taking in the nutrients you need from other sources.

While you figure out the best diet for you, vitamin supplements like B12 and mulitivitamins can help you replenish the vitamins and minerals you need. Cod liver oil tablets are also great for replenishing oils into your body if you’re really cutting back.

Calorie-free Treats

When you need a little lift, it’s easy to grab a sweet treat. Over time, these little bites of deliciousness can add up, and if you’re trying to cut down on the calories you’re eating, that’s not ideal.

There are a number of sugar-free sweets out there designed to curb those cravings, with minimal effect on your calorie intake. What’s even better is, they taste good too!

Treat Yourself

If you’re cutting back on food-based treats, why not pamper yourself instead? Grab a lovely face mask, grab a relaxing epsom salt bath or even try an exfoliating treatment for your feet! There are other ways to enjoy you-time. So treat yourself!

There is so much conflicting advice out there when it comes to your health, weight and body image. The main thing to remember is to eat well, exercise in any way you can and keep making sure that you’re looking after your body.

Disclaimer: If you are allergic to any of the ingredients listed in the products mentioned, do not consume them. Always check with your doctor before trying a new medication or regime, and if irritation or allergy occurs, stop using the product or medication immediately and seek medical advice.
