How to Avoid Pre-Festive Season Burnout

Christmas can be brilliant, but it can also be extremely stressful. The fact is, it's a busy time of year, with family, friends and work functions pulling you in all directions. Plus, there's more of the dreaded lurgy in the air. So, just how do you stay fit and healthy?

We've put together some top tips for avoiding Christmas burnout, so you can kick back, relax and truly enjoy December 25. Well, after you've dished up the dinner and wrapped those last-minute gifts, that is. Read on...

Don't be Afraid to Say 'No'

Alongside the school nativity plays, the after-work drinks and the Christmas carol concert, there's hardly any time to attend the local festive crafts fair with your next door neighbour. Instead of saying 'yes, I'll be there', take some time to really consider your other commitments.

Can you feasibly fit in another get-together during an already busy time? Explain to your pal how stressed you're feeling and consider 'killing two bird with one stone' and inviting him or her to that Christmas concert, too. That way, you can catch up without having to overexert yourself.

Stock Up On Cold and Flu Remedies

So, you may have all your gifts bought and wrapped by December 1, but nothing will stop a common cold from spoiling your plans. Well, aside from the flu jab perhaps.

Think about stocking up on all the remedies you might need to grab when the sniffles threaten to ruin your day - and the festive season. We'll help you catch your cold early; take a look at what we have on our online shelves. Oh, and you can currently make the most of 10% off cough products.

Take a Break

Feeling the strain of too much pre-Christmas planning? Allow yourself a bit of time to just chill. Grab a book and disappear upstairs for some time on your own. Or head out for a brisk walk and get some fresh air into your gills - whatever you need to ensure you're feeling more like yourself again. Just make sure you wrap up if you're heading out into the cold. Can we recommend these?

Delegate Tasks

Getting bogged down with everything you need to do before Christmas Day? Don't. Instead, dish out some jobs to family and friends, if you can. Providing they're not bogged down, too, we bet they won't see you stuck.

Is your brother a good cook? Rope him in to help with the starter and dessert for the big day itself. Or perhaps your sister-in-law's quite crafty. We reckon she'll love being asked to help with the festive table decorations. You can even encourage the kids to get involved. Can they help by doing some baking to give out as last-minute gifts for neighbours, or perhaps they can post Christmas cards on your street? Do whatever you can to lighten the world; it all helps.

Catch Up on Sleep

Sleep is so important - especially at this time of year. So don't neglect some decent shut-eye for other festive tasks. By getting an earlier night you'll be better equipped to tackle those Christmas tasks in the morning.
