How to Overcome Your Fears and Boost Your Confidence

There’s plenty to worry about in this modern world - from bills and finances to work and your personal life. But if you’re finding yourself overwhelmed by your fears and worries, rest assured that there are ways to help you get through things. Read on for some simple tips on becoming a more confident version of yourself.

Get Organised

A cluttered workspace means a cluttered mind - and a cluttered mind only leaves room for more stress. Having structure in your life, whether it’s as simple as writing a daily to-do list or as complex as colour-coordinating your work files, can help you feel more in control of your life – and really, it's safe to say you WILL be more in control of your life!

If public speaking terrifies you and your workplace requires you to give regular presentations, being organised and knowing your content well means you’ll be less nervous. When possible, keep visual aids, like numbered index cards, available to help you along.

Learn How to Breathe the Right Way

Breathing techniques are especially useful to learn. Dealing with a tight throat and chest, clammy palms, and racing heart? These symptoms of anxiety can make you subconsciously breathe a little faster, or hyperventilate, but consciously taking deep breaths from your belly will not only help slow your heartbeat down, but focusing on your breathing distracts you from whatever’s causing your anxiety.

The 4-7-8 breathing technique is an easy one to learn: inhale quietly through your nose for a count of four, hold your breath for a count of seven, and exhale through your mouth for a count of eight. Keep your hand on your belly while you do this because inhaling through your belly can allow you to take deeper breaths.

Look Good, Feel Good

There are a number of positive points associated with looking your best. Not only will you feel more confident in your appearance if you take time to look good, but the act of self-care is incredibly therapeutic. Treat yourself to a facial or a manicure if you’re looking for a confidence boost, or buy a nice pair of shoes to help you feel more poised at that work meeting you’ve been dreading.

Adjusting your posture can be incredibly helpful as well, not only because sitting up straighter makes it easier to breathe, but also because standing tall can make you appear more confident to people. Working out can also help you feel more comfortable in your own skin, not to mention the numerous studies that show that the endorphins released during exercise help reduce cortisol, the stress hormone. It makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

Turn to Supplements

Supplements doesn’t necessarily mean things you’d find in a pharmacy, though these products are beneficial as well. Simple things like a soothing cup of chamomile tea can help you feel calmer. You can easily keep tea at your desk at work for when you need to relax. Lavender is another well-known calming herbal supplement and can be found in many products, from candles to body washes.

Other supplements like Rescue Remedy can be used if you need something extra to boost your confidence and have the courage to face your fears head-on.
