Simple Ways to Be Happy on World Smile Day

It isn't long now until one of our favourite days of the year; autumn might have well and truly set in, but we’re still feeling sunny, because it’s World Smile Day on Monday, October 7!

As the nights get longer and the weather gets a little chillier, it’s great to be reminded about all the small things we can do to make ourselves happy. No matter how bad your day has been or how heavy the rain was on the daily dog walk, we know there are ways to make you feel better. So, without further ado, here are our top tips on being happy, even when the world is feeling a little damp and dreary.

Run a Bubble Bath

Starting with a classic. Is there anything better than a bubble bath to soak away your cares? Light some candles, use some essential oils in the water for a perfectly perfumed experience and add the right oils or bath suds to make soft, sumptuous bubbles.

Add a bit of fun with a bath bomb too. These fizzy little beauties smell great and leave your skin so soft. A perfect treat for bath time.

Look For Three Things You Love

Whether you’re doing the office sandwich run or you’re out on a crisp autumn walk, try this little trick to make you smile.

Instead of running on autopilot, take notice of your surroundings and try to spot things that’ll make you smile. Perhaps the sun is looking particularly beautiful shining through purplish clouds. Maybe a little robin perched on a fence took a good look at you. A tree with deep gold and red leaves might have shed a few overhead as you passed by. Maybe you saw an extremely nice coat in a shop window and you’ve found a new thing to covet on payday.

Whatever they are, they’re there for you to enjoy. So smile and enjoy them!

Have a Mini Makeover

It’s time to pamper yourself. Get a lovely scrub or dry brush and exfoliate your blues away, giving yourself a glowing complexion. Slap on some fake tan — why not? Then give yourself a manicure and try a refreshing face mask.

Concentrating some time on yourself is important. Give yourself a few hours to relax. Turn your phone off, put on some of your favourite music or a great audiobook and give yourself a smile in the mirror. You deserve this moment!

Head Outside

Rain or shine, there’s nothing like going outside to help blast away those autumnal cobwebs.

— try local parkland, forestry commission woodland or a National Trust site for places with trusty paths — grab a waterproof jacket and get gone!

The best part is, even if you get a bit cold, you’ll have achieved something, and you can reward yourself with a slap up meal and a lovely pint or glass of wine at the pub afterwards. Lovely!
